Earlier this year, I had the privilege of attending an insightful session delivered by Tessa Morton, founder of Act for Autism, hosted by Hannah Thomas at the beautiful new Cherished Connection Hub.
Tessa's journey began with her son’s autism diagnosis, and she has since turned her experiences into a mission to empower others with knowledge and understanding.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve participated in many talks, webinars, and training sessions about autism. But this one stood out.
Here’s why:
✔️ An Engaged Audience: The session brought together parents, carers, and educators who were deeply invested in the well-being of their young people. The fact that they chose to spend their evening learning speaks volumes about their commitment.
✔️ Validation and Realism: Tessa, though not autistic herself, delivered the session with a genuine respect for the autistic experience. She emphasized the importance of accommodating rather than seeking to "correct," creating a space for understanding rather than judgment.
✔️ A Focus on Growth: The session wasn’t just about awareness—it was about actionable insights that could lead to meaningful change for everyone involved.
Moments like these are a reminder of the importance of ongoing professional and personal development. Engaging in learning opportunities, particularly those that challenge our perspectives or connect to our passions, fuels growth and allows us to better support others.
A big thank you to Tessa for enlightening us all and for inspiring conversations that matter. 🙏
