Patience

Representing Autism in the media

Patience

The recently-released Channel 4 drama starring an autistic character played by an autistic actor. It's a refreshing change to see autistic characters played by autistic actors. My auntie said she'd be interested to hear my views on the new drama. Likewise, I'll be interested to hear perspectives of other autistics as well as allistics...

My initial thoughts?

We always need to remember that every autistic person is as unique as every allistic person;

The series seems to be running through a checklist of common autistic traits and trying to include as many as possible (at some points this feels a little clunky and "obvious");

I love it when Patience is able to self-advocate;

I equally love it when Patience is unmasked;

I love the soothing hygge feel to Patience's home and the comfort this gives her to retreat to at the end of the day;

I love the level of allyship forming between Bea and Patience;

I love how Patience is being given the opportunity to employ her strengths and special interests to positive outcomes and to fill skills gaps that are otherwise missing from the team (always wearing my HR hat)...

I'd love to hear your views...
